BERLIN, April 11 (Reuters) - Bayern Munich have received more than 200,000 ticket requests for their Champions League semi-final game in Munich, thousands of which were made before they advanced against Juventus, the club said on Thursday. "We have been updating the figure constantly and at the moment it stands at 200,000 ticket requests for the semi-final home leg," a Bayern Munich official told Reuters. Bayern's stadium fits only 69,000 and that includes the 39,500 ticket holders and any fans travelling with their opponents. ...

Call it an unintentional walk.
Cleveland's new manager said he got lost Monday making the two-block walk from his apartment to the ballpark for the Indians' home opener against the New York Yankees.
Francona is living in downtown Cleveland during the season and he plans to ride a small scooter he used during spring training in Arizona for the short commute to the ballpark. However, he decided to hit the streets on foot early in the morning and ended up needing directions to find his new workplace.
"I got lost three times," he said. "Even when I got to the garage two people who work here said, 'Hey, do you know where you're going?' I was like, 'Nope.'"
Fortunately for Francona, an Indians employee picked him up in a golf cart and got him to the stadium.
Boston's manager for eight seasons, Francona was overwhelmed by the assistance he received while encountering a few fans on his maiden voyage.
"Cleveland is officially the nicest people I've ever met," he said. "Everybody I did walk by said, 'Hello.' That's a little different than I'm used to."
Francona said he has always preferred to stay as close as possible to where he works.
"I like being close to the ballpark, always have," he said. "If I had my druthers on the road, I would rather stay in a motel next to the ballpark than have to drive a half-hour."
Francona was looking forward to catching a ceremonial first pitch from his father, Tito, who played outfield for the Indians from 1959-64. The Franconas were to take part in special pregame festivities involving several Indians players and their fathers.
"That will be really cool for me," Francona said.
As a kid, Francona often visited Cleveland's old ballpark with his dad and that's where he got his nickname, "Tito."
"Guys would say, "Hey, little Tito,'" Francona said. "It just kind of stuck."

BOSTON (AP) ? The longest home sellout streak in major pro sports history ended Wednesday night at 820 games for the Boston Red Sox.
The official attendance for an 8-5 loss to the Baltimore Orioles was 30,862. The capacity for night games at Fenway Park is 37,493.
The streak began in May 2003 and includes the postseason. The string broke the record of 814 set by the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers from 1977-95.
Boston's streak of 794 regular-season sellouts also is the longest in major pro sports history. The previous mark in Major League Baseball history was 455 set by the Cleveland Indians from 1995-2001.
"The streak is a reflection of a phenomenal period of baseball in Boston and of America's greatest ballpark," Red Sox owner John W. Henry said in a statement. "But more than that, it is a testament to the baseball passion of New England fans. As we close the book on this incredible era, we look forward to another with a renewed certainty that the next couple of generations of Red Sox fans will also be enjoying baseball at the ever magical Fenway Park."
The sellout streak began on May 15, 2003, when the Red Sox beat the Texas Rangers 12-3 as Pedro Martinez pitched six scoreless innings before 32,485 fans. Seating capacity was expanded after that and the streak continued through Monday's home opener, a 3-1 win over the Orioles with an official attendance of 37,008.
The average attendance during the streak was 36,605, the Red Sox said.
In recent seasons, there were hundreds, sometimes thousands, of empty seats at Fenway Park, which opened in 1912. The Red Sox said last season that attendance is based on tickets distributed, such as those given to charities, and not on the actual number of fans who attend games.
The Red Sox won the World Series in 2004, the second season of the streak, and again in 2007. But they missed the playoffs the past two years and finished 69-93 last season in Bobby Valentine's only season as their manager.
During last season, they traded pitcher Josh Beckett, first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and left fielder Carl Crawford, who were due $261 million from 2013-18, to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
In the offseason, the Red Sox hired John Farrell as manager and overhauled their roster, avoiding star free agents and long-term deals.
"We are proud of this historic achievement," Red Sox President Larry Lucchino said of the streak. "Over the past 10 years, more than 30 million, many among the most sophisticated baseball fans in America, have purchased tickets to see games at Fenway Park. Never in that period was there a crowd less than 32,000. No other club in Major League Baseball can make that statement."

Good ergonomics are just as important in the kitchen as they are for your workspace. Unfortunately, counter heights are often too high or too low for many people, ending in strained shoulders and back and neck pain when cooking. Real Simple offers two solutions: stacked cutting boards or a sturdy stool.
Check the height of your counter before you start chopping:
Put your arms at your sides and bend your elbows to 90 degrees. The surface should be no more than a few inches below your hands. If it's too low, stack cutting boards; if it's too high, stand on a sturdy stool. To lessen back strain, stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, shoulders back, and knees soft.
Hit up the slideshow below for more tips on improving your posture in various places beyond your desk.

The global burden of dengue infection is more than triple current estimates from the World Health Organization, according to a multinational study published today in the journal 'Nature'.
The research has created the first detailed and up-to-date map of dengue distribution worldwide, enabling researchers to estimate the total numbers of people affected by the virus globally, regionally and nationally. The findings will help to guide efforts in vaccine, drug and vector control strategies.
The study was led by Professor Simon Hay, a Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, as part of the International Research Consortium on Dengue Risk Assessment, Management and Surveillance.
Dengue, also known as 'breakbone fever', is a viral infection that is transmitted between humans by mosquitoes. In some people, it causes life-threatening illness.
There are currently no licensed vaccines or specific treatments for dengue, and substantial efforts to control the mosquitoes that transmit the disease have not stopped its rapid emergence and global spread. Until now, little was known about the current distribution of the risk of dengue virus infection and its public health burden around the world.
Dr Samir Bhatt, who led the modelling for the study, says: "Our aim was to take all of the evidence that is currently available on the distribution of dengue worldwide and combine it with the latest in mapping and mathematical modelling to produce the most refined risk maps and burden estimates. We then hope to use this knowledge to help predict the future burden of the disease."
The findings reveal that dengue is ubiquitous throughout the tropics, with local spatial variations in risk influenced strongly by rainfall, temperature and urbanisation. The team estimate that there are 390 million dengue infections across the globe each year, of which 96 million reach any level of clinical or subclinical severity. This is more than triple the WHO's most recent estimates of 50-100 million infections per year.
Professor Simon Hay explains: "We found that climate and population spread were important factors for predicting the current risk of dengue around the world. With globalisation and the constant march of urbanisation, we anticipate that there could be dramatic shifts in the distribution of the disease in the future: the virus may be introduced to areas that previously were not at risk, and those that are currently affected may experience increases in the number of infections.
"We hope that the research will initiate a wider discussion about the significant global impact of this disease."
Of the 96 million apparent infections, Asia bore 70 per cent of the burden. India alone accounted for around one-third of all infections. The results indicate that with 16 million infections, Africa's burden is almost equivalent to that of the Americas and is significantly larger than previously appreciated. The authors suggest that the hidden African dengue burden could be a result of the disease being masked by symptomatically similar illnesses, under-reporting and highly variable treatment-seeking behaviour.
Professor Jeremy Farrar, Director of the Wellcome Trust Vietnam Research Programme and Oxford University Clinical Research Unit Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Vietnam, explains that the map and estimates produced by Hay's group set the benchmark for the disease: "This is the first systematic robust estimate of the extent of dengue. The evidence that we've gathered here will help to maximise the value and cost-effectiveness of public health and clinical efforts, by indicating where limited resources can be targeted for maximum possible impact
With endemic transmission in Asia and the Americas, recent outbreaks in Portugal, the ever-increasing incidence in Africa, and the challenges of making an effective dengue vaccine or controlling the vector, Professor Farrar stresses: "This really does represent a crucial period in the global spread of dengue."
Jimmy Whitworth, Head of International Activities at the Wellcome Trust, said: "Over time, this comprehensive map of global disease burden will also help to demonstrate which control measures are making the biggest difference in reducing the number of people suffering from dengue infection. Without a vaccine or specific treatment options, it's crucial that we understand where best to direct the limited resources available for preventing this resurgent disease."

ATLANTA (AP) ? Trey Burke scored seven points in the first 2:44 and Spike Albrecht made three 3-pointers to stay perfect from beyond the arc for the tournament to help Michigan take a 20-17 lead over Louisville midway through the first half of NCAA title game.
Burke, the AP Player of the Year, matched his entire output from Saturday night's semifinal in a mere 164 seconds. But he also drew his second foul with 11:09 left and was lifted from the game by coach John Beilein.
Albrecht, meanwhile, made all three of his 3-point attempts to improve to 8-for-8 from long range thus far in the tournament.
Wayne Blackshear had five points for Louisville, as the teams got off to a fast-paced and sizzling start. They combined to make 14 of their first 25 shots.
Watching from the stands were all five members of the Fab Five, the brash group of sophomores who led Michigan to the final in 1993 ? the program's last appearance at the Final Four.
That included Chris Webber, who infamously called a timeout the Wolverines didn't have at the end of Michigan's 77-71 loss to North Carolina in the 1993 final. He has had very little to do with his alma mater in recent years, but was seen getting out of his car and heading into the Georgia Dome shortly before tip-off.
Top-seeded Louisville (34-5) is trying to bring its first title back to the state of Kentucky's "other" school since 1986. Sitting on the bench with the Cardinals is sophomore guard Kevin Ware, the team's inspiration since snapping his tibia in the regional final last weekend.
Cardinals coach Rick Pitino is working the sideline hours after being named to the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame.
Pitino is trying to become the first coach to lead two programs to national championships. He took Kentucky to the title in 1996.
Russ Smith, the Louisville team leader who Pitino has nicknamed "Russdiculous" for some of his wild ? and wildly effective ? antics on the court, scores 18.9 points a game for the Cardinals during the season but has picked up the scoring in the tournament, averaging 25 in the five Louisville wins.
The Cardinals are playing without their main reserve, Ware, who broke his leg in the regional final against Duke. Needing a pickup without Ware, reserve swingman Luke Hancock scored 20 points in the 72-68 win over Wichita State. And rarely used walk-on Tim Henderson made two key 3-pointers during the comeback.
"The other night, we were not going to play in the championship game unless a walk-on steps up and makes a play to give us momentum," Pitino said in a pregame interview.
Michigan topped Syracuse 61-56 on Saturday despite an off night from Burke, who finished with only seven points on 1-for-8 shooting.
Burke, a sophomore, seriously considered leaving for the NBA after last season but decided he had unfinished business left in Ann Arbor. He picked up the AP Player of the Year award, among others, and is now one victory away from the ultimate prize in college hoops.
Before leaving the locker room, Beilein gave his team a pep talk: "You play with poise, play with confidence, you do all those things today and we're going to have one heck of a celebration," he said.
Monday night's game is the final act in what has been an ugly season overall in college hoops, with scoring at its lowest (67.49 points per team) since 1951-52 and shooting at its worst (43.3 percent) since 1964-65. The 131.2-points-per-game average during March Madness is the lowest since the 3-point line was brought to the game in 1987, though the teams were on pace to easily surpass that midway through the first half.

We knew good and well that HTC's One would be arriving on T-Mobile USA at some point, and for those uninterested in tying themselves to Sprint or AT&T, here's some news that matters: Best Buy has just confirmed to us that it'll begin shipping T-Mobile's flavor of the aforementioned phone on April 19th. The "Glacier Silver" kit will be on sale for as little at $249.99 on a two-year deal, whereas you'll be forced to pay $699.99 for the blessing of having no strings attached. Granted, T-Mob's Simple Choice suggests that no contracts will be involved, but if you take the bait on the subsidized price, you'll either be hanging with the carrier long enough to pay it off, or you'll be forking out the difference on the way to some other operator.

Platypus Man avoids wasting paper towels:
Okay, so maybe I'm just behind the times, but I recently discovered something interesting. In my office we use the automatic paper towel dispensers in the bathroom. Unfortunately, one paper towel usually isn't enough to fully dry my hands, but two is too much. At least here, I've found that giving the paper towel a very slight tug as it's coming out stops it from dispensing any further, so you can get as much smaller than a regular towel as you want.

Iamdesi shares a handy gesture for iOS users:
iOS: Some people (like me) prefer to shoot photos from the lock screen using the camera icon. It's quick and easy; you just gesture to open camera from lock screen is swipe up holding the camera icon.
Now the tip: To re-lock the phone, you can use the same thumb to lock the iOS device, by swiping down from the top of the screen with camera open (just like you do for notifications) and wham! The phone is locked!
You could, of course, use the lock button on the top, but you already have your thumb out for opening the camera and shooting photos, so this is faster.
Craig Lloyd discovers a workaround for better notifications from his bank:
So, I really like Simple's way of notifying you of every transaction that happens with your bank account, but I've noticed that Chase doesn't offer that (or at least I haven't discovered such a feature yet). However, they do offer alerts for certain types of transactions, so if you want to be notified of all activity, simply put a check mark on every alert, and put "$0.00" in the textbox where it asks for a minimum.
This could work for other banks too; you'll have to log in and check it out for your particular bank.

After causing the collapse of the U.K.'s oldest investment bank, spending several years in a Singapore jail and over a decade reinventing his tattered image, Nick Leeson is finally back on the financial market.
Thirteen years after his release from prison, the former Barings trader, who lost 827 million pounds at the investment bank, has become an alternative insolvency practitioner at GDP Partnership in Ireland. He is set to help over-indebted borrowers negotiate deals with their banks, something Leeson should be firmly knowledgeable on.
A statement from the company's Twitter account said: "Nick's experience dealing with financial challenges will be an invaluable asset to our very strong team of professionals."
GDP is not shy of referring to Leeson's past. A press release stated he was the man "famed for his role in the collapse of Barings Bank." Leeson himself said that his past would prove invaluable for his role at GDP: "I've faced a number of difficult situations in the past and ultimately seen them turn for the better. It is often difficult to see the solution but rest assured there is always one available".
Leeson has lived in Ireland since his release and mainly focused on a career on the speaking circuit.
He will become head of GDP's Dublin office, which beside bank mediation also focuses on property consultancy - advising clients on real estate opportunities as well as restructuring and corporate finance advice.
Ireland's financial crisis, caused by a property bust, led it to seek a 67.5 billion euro ($88.5 billion) bailout from the International Monetary Fund, the European Central Bank and the European Commission. While the country has made significant progress, it is still working through its bad debts, with 12 percent of domestic mortgages in trouble at the end of last year.

He?ll submit his administration?s budget for the fiscal year beginning in October on Wednesday, and based on leaked details it?s getting largely negative reviews.
House Speaker John Boehner has rejected it because it includes new revenues, meaning some new taxes on the wealthy. Obama?s liberal base promises to block any cuts in entitlements ? in particular, a revised inflation adjustment for Social Security known as "chained CPI."?
"There are nuggets of his budget that I think are optimistic." Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina said on NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday ? the only praise, however lukewarm, heard from a Republican.
"The president is showing a little bit of leg here, this is somewhat encouraging," said Sen. Graham. "He has sort of made a step forward in the entitlement-reform process."
"He showed some leadership," Graham added. "That puts the burden on us."
Which is exactly what Obama?s liberal base fears, a fact all too clear to the White House, which sought to clarify its position Sunday.
"This chained CPI that?s being referred to here, it is something the president will only accept on two conditions," senior advisor Dan Pfeiffer?said on ABC?s ?This Week.? "One, it?s part of a balanced package that includes closing tax loopholes that benefit the wealthiest, and two, that it has protections for the most vulnerable, including the oldest seniors."
On Wednesday ? the day he officially unveils his budget for FY 2014 ? Obama will dine with a dozen Republican senators.
"The president's focus, in addition to the regular order process that members of Congress say they want, is to try to find a caucus of common sense, folks who are willing to compromise, that don't think compromise is a dirty word, and try to get something done," White House senior advisor Dan Pfeiffer said Sunday on "This Week.?
But Obama might want to schedule a meal with liberal lawmakers and pundits as well.

ATLANTA (AP) ? Start studying, Louisville.
Michigan spoiled what would have been one heck of a going-away party for the Big East on Saturday night, beating Syracuse 61-56 to earn a spot in Monday night's championship game against top-seeded Louisville. Now the Cardinals have less than 48 hours to get ready for a team they haven't played since 1978.
"We don't have to prepare too much if we play Syracuse," Pitino, trying to become the first coach to win national titles at two different schools, said after Louisville rallied for a 72-68 victory over ninth-seeded Wichita State. "We've got a lot of preparation if we play Michigan."
Louisville (34-5), which has won 15 straight, is an early 4?-point favorite over Michigan (31-7).
This is Louisville's first appearance in the championship game since 1986, when it won its second title. The Wolverines are back in the title game for the first time since 1993, when Chris Webber and Co. lost to North Carolina. Who did Michigan beat to reach that title game? None other than Kentucky, coached by Pitino at the time.
"It's going to be a great matchup," said Mitch McGary, who had 10 points and 12 rebounds for Michigan.
Louisville got its first real scare of the tournament from ninth-seeded Wichita State, falling behind by 12 in the second half. Nothing was clicking for the Cardinals on offense, they were getting in foul trouble and Kevin Ware, who can normally be counted on to give Louisville a lift off the bench, had been reduced to spectator, his broken right leg sustained in last week's win over Duke propped up on the seat next to him.
But the Cardinals can grind it out, too, a fact that was all but forgotten as they steamrolled through their first four games of the NCAA tournament. Louisville had come back to win five games already this year after trailing by nine points or more, including the title game at the Big East tournament, and the Cardinals knew they had another run in them. Sure enough, Luke Hancock knocked down one shot after another, walk-on Tim Henderson made back-to-back 3s and the Cardinals forced seven turnovers in the final seven minutes during a 30-13 run.
Wichita State would give Louisville one last scare, pulling within 68-66 on Cleanthony Early's tip in with 22 seconds left. But the Shockers were forced to foul, and the Smith and Hancock made theirs to seal the game.
"I never think we're going to lose," Pitino said. "That doesn't mean we're going to win. We have lost. But that's the attitude: Pressing teams have to stay in there. We were fouling too much. Then we started making some steals, picking up the heat. Then, of course, the guys were brilliant."
It didn't hurt that Malcolm Armstead, who earned Most Outstanding Player honors in the West Regional after averaging 15.5 points in the first four games, was ice cold, finishing with 2 points on 1-of-10 shooting. The Cardinals won't be able to count on that against Michigan.
Though AP Player of the Year Trey Burke had only 7 points on 1-of-8 shooting, Tim Hardaway Jr. led three Wolverines in double figures with 13 points.
"We know Trey is our leader," Hardaway said. "He's not going to have a game like he's been (having) the whole season. That's when our team steps up and just tries to pick him up."
Much was made of Syracuse's suffocating 2-3 zone, which had made more than one tournament team look inept. But the Wolverines rendered it ineffective early on by making shots from long range, including four 3s in the first half. They got sloppy down the stretch, allowing Syracuse to all but erase Michigan's 8-point lead with 3:54 left.
Trailing 58-56, the Orange had a chance to force overtime. But Brandon Triche was called for a foul when Jordan Morgan stepped in to take the charge with 19.2 seconds left. After Jon Horford made only one of two free throws, Syracuse called timeout and set up a play. But instead of going for a 3-pointer, Trevor Cooney drove the lane.
The ball was swatted away, Michigan snatched up the rebound and Morgan scored on a thunderous dunk with just over a second remaining.
"It was a close game throughout the whole game," Burke said. "I just kept telling the guys, coming out of halftime, 'Syracuse is a really talented team, and they're going to go on runs.' This is a game of runs.
"A lot of people would crack under pressure when you're in that type of situation."
Now Michigan will face a different kind of pressure against Louisville ? the Cardinals' stingy press.
"Louisville is going to be a difficult game," Michigan coach John Beilein said. "We've played against Rick's teams and Kentucky one time, when I was at Canisius, and at West Virginia a few times. He's a great coach with great schemes and it's going to be very difficult."

At dusk, lights remain on at Rutgers University's Old Queens building where President Robert Barchi was in a meeting Thursday, April 4, 2013, in New Brunswick, N.J., one day after Rutgers basketball head coach Mike Rice was fired. Rice was fired Wednesday after a videotape aired showing Rice using gay slurs, shoving and grabbing his players and throwing balls at them in practice. Scarlet Knights AD Tim Pernetti was given a copy of the video in late November by a disgruntled former employee, and he suspended Rice for three games, fined him $50,000 and made him undergo anger management classes for inappropriate behavior after investigating it. NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) ? The burgeoning basketball scandal has cost Rutgers more than a popular, young athletic director, an interim general counsel, two coaches and a lot of embarrassment.
The state university of New Jersey is in danger of losing some of its biggest donors in tough economic times.
The school's woes only mounted on a day that started with AD Tim Pernetti resigning over his failure to fire coach Mike Rice in December after reviewing video of the coach hitting, kicking and taunting players with anti-gay slurs at practice.
First-year Rutgers President Robert Barchi came under intense questioning at a news conference Friday over what he knew about the video months ago, but he got a nod of support from New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and the school's board of governors.
Eric Murdock, the former NBA player and Rice's director of basketball development, filed a whistleblower lawsuit against the university for unspecified damages for wrongful termination.
His video of Rice's actions at practice was shown Tuesday on ESPN, prompting outrage nationwide and on campus, where the coach's conduct was especially sensitive because of the 2010 suicide of a student who killed himself after his roommate used a webcam to record him kissing another man.
The day ended with some of Rutgers' biggest backers threatening to stop writing checks because they were upset Pernetti, a rising star who had guided the Scarlet Knights' move to the Big Ten Conference, was forced out for not firing Rice when he first became aware of the video.
Tom Mendiburu, whose High Point Solutions paid $6 million for the naming rights to the university's football stadium, tweeted that he was concerned, saying he made the deal because of Pernetti.
"We've invested so much into (hash)RU and now I'm not even sure who we turn to. Very sad day and I'm sorry Pernetti had to go through this," he tweeted.
Mendiburu said a lot of people are asking him what he is going to do ? and he wasn't sure.
The Star-Ledger of Newark reported that Daniel Wheeler, a founding member of the Society of Queens College, was upset that Rutgers ignored prominent donors' pleas to keep Pernetti. Membership in the society, which bears the name under which Rutgers was chartered in 1766, requires a minimum of $1 million donated to the school.
"I won't say numbers, but I've given over seven figures, and like a lot of people who have done the same, I support Tim Pernetti," Wheeler told the newspaper.
The Ledger also reported late Friday night that, according to a settlement agreement obtained by the newspaper, Pernetti will be paid more than $1.2 million in return for his resignation.
Pernetti, who admitted he made a mistake in not firing Rice immediately in December after getting a copy of the video, didn't leave without a little finger-pointing.
In handing in his resignation, the former Rutgers tight end said that he wanted to fire Rice on the spot but did not because the consensus among school officials at the time was that his actions didn't warrant dismissal.
Instead he suspended Rice for three games, fined him $75,000 and ordered him to take anger management classes.
Barchi approved the punishment without asking to see the video, which he knew existed. He relied on his athletic director's recommendation. That was a mistake, he said.
"This was a failure of process. I regret that I did not ask to see this video when Tim first told me of its existence," Barchi said. "I want to apologize to the entire Rutgers community for the negative impact that this situation has had on Rutgers.
"I also apologize to the LGBT community and all of us who share their values for the homophobic slurs shown on that video. I personally know how hurtful that language can be."
Barchi said he watched the video for the first time with Pernetti on Tuesday night and told him to fire the coach who was his first major hire.
Pernetti did the next day.
"I was deeply disturbed by the behavior that the video revealed, which was much more abusive and pervasive than I had understood it to be," Barchi said. "As Tim acknowledged on Wednesday, his decision to rehabilitate, rather than fire, coach Rice was wrong."
Barchi said the school hopes to appoint an interim athletic director in a few days, while admitting he doesn't know whether that person will come from inside or outside the university.
Pernetti said in his resignation letter that he hoped his tenure at Rutgers would not be judged by one incident.
"I have admitted my role in, and regret for, that decision, and wish that I had the opportunity to go back and override it for the sake of everyone involved," he said.
Pernetti's biggest coup was getting Rutgers into the Big Ten, which means millions in additional revenue from TV contracts and more national exposure, especially in football. The move, which becomes official in 2014, should provide a big boost to the program in recruiting and season-ticket sales. The Scarlet Knights will continue to play next season in the Big East.
Pernetti, who hired Rice in 2010, viewed him as an intense leader who could turn the perennially underachieving program around. But Rice went 44-51 in three years and posted a 16-38 mark in the Big East. The Scarlet Knights went 15-16 this season, including 5-13 in the league. They have not been to the NCAA tournament since 1991.
Barchi said Rice was not fired for cause. Under his contract, that means he's owed just over $1 million for the next two years at 75 percent of his contract amount, plus another $100,000 for completing the 2012-13 season as coach.
Also resigning was John B. Wolf, Rutgers' interim senior vice president and general counsel, who is believed to have recommended against firing Rice in December. On Thursday, the school said assistant coach Jimmy Martelli had resigned.
Murdock filed his lawsuit Friday, alleging Rutgers violated the state's employee protection act and his contract. He said he wrote to the university in July about Rice's "unlawful conduct," and gave the university the video in November.
"Despite having been in possession of such video footage, the university and its representatives inexplicably chose to ignore Defendant Rice's unlawful conduct," the lawsuit said.
Rutgers officials, including Barchi, declined to comment about the lawsuit.
Murdock claims the school violated a state anti-bullying law and a Rutgers policy put in place in response to the 2010 suicide of student Tyler Clementi, who became distraught after learning his roommate had used a webcam to watch him kiss another man.
"Despite their obligations under New Jersey law and the university's own policy, neither the presidents of the university, the athletic director nor any other university representatives took any steps to assure that the rights of the student-athlete members of the men's basketball program were protected from assault (both physical and verbal), battery, harassment, intimidation, bullying, defamation and other unlawful conduct," the lawsuit states.
Despite the latest resignations and the growing troubles, Barchi got votes of confidence Friday.
Christie commended Barchi "for his decisive leadership in coming to an agreement with Mr. Pernetti to have the athletic department of Rutgers University come under new leadership," he said.
Ralph Izzo, chairman of the school's board of governors, called Barchi "the right person to run this place for many years to come."
He noted Barchi was brought in with two primary objectives: No. 1 was to build a strategic plan for this university for 10 years, going forward, to lead us to academic success and academic greatness; and No. 2, an enormous challenge of integrating a medical school with this university. Being on the job two months, hearing from a general counsel and the athletic director that there was a serious problem, I think he did the right thing by acquiescing to that advice at the time."

This week we heard about a new game company started from a couple of game designers that are local to our area ? Tom Brinton and Dallin Gunther. The company is called Normal Games and their first game is called Mages.
Like many new game designers, they?re launched their first game through a Kickstarter project. We?ve written Kickstarter before and how it?s a great way to raise funds for getting a game off the ground. We also hear about new board game and card game projects being launched on Kickstarter on a very regular basis ? way too many to cover. So mostly we just watch from a far.
However, since this project is from some game designers in our area, we thought we?d give them a shout-out. We asked them a few questions about their company, the game, and themselves that we thought our readers would be interested in.
TBGF: What is Mages all about?
NG: Melgorn, the master mage, is looking for a new apprentice to defend the land from Agrin?s Curse. He has organized a tournament to find the finest mage in the land. (Cue dramatic movie trailer music) Are YOU that mage?
Haha, but really, a quick overview. The game is equal parts gathering resources and casting spells. Think of it as a mix between ?Settlers of Catan? and ?Bang!?.
TBGF: We love both Settlers of Catan and Bang ? so that catches our attention.
TBGF: What is it about Mages that will appeal to families?
NG: We have tried to keep the gameplay simple, while introducing a few more gameplay elements that might be new to families. For example, as you increase your skill levels, you get to use better dice. You start using a 4-sided dice, but by the end of the game, you?ll be casting spells with a 10-sided dice.
The gameplay is simple, but there is a strategy element that makes the game fun for everyone: will you play defensively and try to win by gathering jewels and orbs, or will you try to defeat the other mages and win using an offense strategy?
TBGF: How long have you been involved in board and card games?
NG: We have been playing games since we were kids, but we really got into Euro-style games in college. About a year and a half ago, we started developing Mages. It has slowly evolved and morphed into its current form. We feel that it is up to par with all our favorites.
TBGF: What do you like about games in general?
NG: We always pull out games at social gatherings, because they are a great way to turn strangers into friends. The social aspect, away from a computer screen, makes it a more enriching experience. A game is a tool to connect people, and heck, they?re FUN.
TBGF: What are some of your favorite games?
NG: Tom?s favorite is called Monopoly Deal. This is the card game take on Monopoly. The best part about it is how fast paced it is. Each game lasts about 15 minutes, and it is fun wheeling and dealing with your friends. And I don?t even really enjoy the original version of Monopoly!
Dallin?s favorite is Pandemic. This is a fun cooperative game where you are trying to eradicate diseases as they spread across the world. This game pushes my table-top gaming skills to the max as the group collectively decides the fate of humanity.
TBGF: How did you come up with the name of your game company?
NG: The name ?Normal Games Co.? kind of started as an understatement thing. We could have called ourselves Awesome Games, but we thought it was funnier to do the opposite. That kind of evolved into our company mission statement: ?Normal Games for Normal People?
We feel that sometimes there is a stigma about tabletop games being for nerds. We think everyone can find board games that they enjoy, whether they consider themselves a serious gamer or not. So as we developed Mages, we often discarded rules that seemed too complicated. It helped us keep the game focused.
TBGF: What are some lessons you?ve learned along the way when creating Mages?
NG: When you are developing a game, it can be difficult to keep everything balanced. For example, if you take away a few cards from the deck, it can totally throw off the entire game. So I guess the high-level lesson there is: Everything you change has an effect on something else. This is true in life and in games.
We have also learned that making and promoting a game is hard work!?But it is exciting to see people enjoy something that you have created.
TBGF:?To find out more, we?d suggest you go take a look at Mages up on Kickstarter.

Our friend Karen who is the innkeeper at the lovely Woodstock Inn on the Millstream, had made a batch of these the last time we stopped by for a visit.
Karen was very generous with her cookies, and we sat around in the inn?s kitchen enjoying them. When I asked for the recipe, she told me that it was from Whole Foods. So I Googled ?Whole Foods mandarin coconut cookies? when we got home and, sure enough, there it was.
I?ve adapted the Whole Foods recipe slightly below as there were a couple of silly and inefficient things in their version. For example, instead of removing the skin of the tangerines with a vegetable peeler and then chopping it to obtain enough zest, I?ve changed it to just zesting the tangerines. Time is precious, after all?
We happened to have a small pile of tangerines that were not getting any younger sitting on the counter, so the timing was perfect. And I had the rest of the ingredients ? coconut oil (which is great to cook and bake with!), flour, sugar, baking powder, vanilla, salt and coconut flakes, too.
My almost four-year-old son ?helped? me make them. His favorite part was drinking the freshly squeezed tangerine juice and eating the sweetened coconut ? and eating the cookies, of course. He told me recently in a very solemn and proud little voice, ?Mama, I can eat SO much sweet things.? Which is true.
Since we usually use eggs in our cookie dough (this vegan cookie recipe is a bit out of the norm for me), he assumed that this dough was also off-limits for eating. And I saw no reason to tell him otherwise?
The dough is kind of fun to handle ? the texture is soft and marzipan-like with a delicious sweet smell from the coconut oil and the tangerine juice.
I also enjoyed smooshing the cookies with the bottom of a glass dipped first in water and then in the coconut flakes to flatten them out for baking.
I think the cookies end up looking a little bit like flowers, which seems fitting now that it?s spring and the warmer weather is on its way. Enjoy!
Mandarin Coconut Cookies adapted from Whole Foods? recipe
Makes roughly 3 dozen
Ingredients
* 2 mandarin oranges, such as satsumas or clementines
* 1 1/4 cup organic cane sugar
* 3/4 cup organic, virgin coconut oil, melted and cooled slightly
* 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
* 2 1/2 cups organic all-purpose flour
* 1 cup finely grated dried, sweetened, organic coconut, divided
* 3 Tbsps cornstarch
* 1 tsp baking powder
* 1/2 tsp fine sea salt
Directions
1. Preheat the oven to 325?F. Use a microplane zester to obtain 1 tablespoon zest. Juice the mandarins to obtain 1/4 cup juice. Set aside.
2. In a large bowl, beat 1 1/4 cups sugar and oil on medium speed for 1 minute. Add the tangerine juice, zest and vanilla and beat again. Add flour, 1/2 cup coconut oil, cornstarch, baking powder and salt and beat again until combined.
3. Form the dough into 1 1/2-inch balls. Arrange the balls two inches apart on a parchment-paper-lined baking sheet (I used my Silpat but it?s worth noting that both parchment paper and Silpat contain silicon so, if you?re concerned about that, my guess is you could also just grease a cookie sheet with equally good results.)
4. Dip a flat-bottomed glass in water and then in the sweetened coconut flakes. Press down firmly on each cookie, re-dipping the glass as needed. Bake until golden brown and just firm, about 15 minutes.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? North Korea's latest outburst of nuclear and military threats has given the U.S. a rare opportunity to build bridges with China ? a potential silver lining to the simmering crisis that could revitalize the Obama administration's flagging policy pivot to Asia.
The architect of the administration's Asia policy described a subtle change in Chinese thinking as a result of Pyongyang's recent nuclear tests, rocket launches and abandonment of the armistice that ended the 1950-53 war with South Korea.
Pyongyang has taken similar actions in the past, prompting Washington to step up military readiness in the region to soothe allies South Korea and Japan. But in an unusual rebuke this week, Beijing called North Korea's moves "regrettable" ? amounting to a slap from Pyongyang's strongest economic and diplomatic supporter.
"They, I think, recognize that the actions that North Korea has taken in recent months and years are in fact antithetical to their own national security interests," former Assistant Secretary of State Kurt Campbell told a panel Thursday at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
"There is a subtle shift in Chinese foreign policy" toward North Korea, said Campbell, who retired in February as the administration's top diplomat in East Asia and the Pacific region. "I don't think that provocative path can be lost on Pyongyang. ... I think that they have succeeded in undermining trust and confidence in Beijing."
State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland described "good unity" between the U.S. and China in responding to North Korea.
"The issue here is to continue to recognize that the threats we share are common, and the approaches are more likely to be more effective if we can work well together," she told reporters Thursday.
President Barack Obama recently called China's new president, Xi Jinping, as part of an effort to brief the Chinese about American plans to take steps to deter the threats coming from the North, The New York Times reported on its website Friday night.
For now, the crisis has given new rise to the White House's decision to bolster U.S. economic and security in the region that for years was sidelined as a priority by war and terrorism in the Middle East and North Africa.
Much of the policy has centered on China ? both in strengthening diplomatic ties and economic trade. But China is an unreliable American ally and has been suspicious about the U.S. entreaty, which it sees as economic competition on its own turf.
Now, North Korea's threats have focused China and the U.S. on a regional security threat instead of an economic rivalry.
"Part of the pivot is to also take a more active interest in the security issues in Asia," Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md., who chairs a committee overseeing East Asia, said in an interview this week. "And clearly, North Korea is the most difficult country and one that represents security issues for the countries in Asia, as well as indirectly affects U.S. interests."
"With North Korea making these noises, it will require the U.S. to deal with security issues in Asia," Cardin said.
North Korea has ratcheted up an almost daily string of threats toward the U.S., South Korea and Japan and moved a missile with "considerable range" to its east coast, South Korea's defense minister said Thursday. But he emphasized that the missile was not capable of reaching the United States, and officials in Seoul and Washington agree there are no signs that Pyongyang is preparing for a full-scale conflict.
Last year, North Korea launched two long-range rockets ? it claims they were satellites but were widely believed to be missiles ? and in February announced it conducted an underground nuclear test. A month later, the country declared its 1953 armistice with South Korea void. And this week, Pyongyang said it would restart a shuttered nuclear reactor and ramp up production of atomic weapons material, and began turning away South Korean workers from jointly run factories in the North.
Much of the bellicosity is seen as an effort to shore up loyalty among citizens and the military for North Korea's young leader, Kim Jong Un. But U.S. and U.N. sanctions against Pyongyang after the February nuclear test fueled tensions and began the unusually high level of threats.
It's also a response to annual U.S.-South Korean military drills that ? intentional or not ? antagonize the North. The ongoing drills have shown a conspicuous display of firepower, including flying American bombers and fighter jets in recent weeks over South Korea and off the Korean peninsula's coast, where a U.S. missile-defense ship also has been deployed.
North Korea's military issued a statement saying its troops have been authorized to counter U.S. "aggression" with "powerful practical military counteractions," including nuclear weapons. Experts doubt Pyongyang is able to launch nuclear-tipped missiles, although the extent of its nuclear arsenal is unclear.
China historically has been lax on enforcing international sanctions against the North. But in what the U.S. took as a positive development, China signed on to stiffer measures in the latest round of U.N. Security Council sanctions announced after the February nuclear test, and there are initial indications that it's increasing cargo inspections. Whether this will lead to concrete steps that will crimp North Korea's weapons' programs and illicit trade in arms, however, remains to be seen.
Patrick Cronin, an Asia expert at the Center for a New American Security and a senior State Department official during the George W. Bush administration, said Beijing also is helping set up back-channel negotiations with North Korea to ease the tensions.
But ultimately, he said, the U.S. isn't likely to succeed in winning China over as a reliable partner against North Korea beyond the current flare-up.
"There is an opportunity for the U.S. and China to renew cooperation on a North Korean strategy," Cronin said. "But we can't put all of our hopes on that cooperation, because it's been less than satisfying in the past. There are limits to how far China and the U.S. have coincidental interests with regard to North Korea. But it's not enough ? because, more likely, we're likely to fail."
Asia expert and peace activist Hyun Lee agreed that Washington will be unlikely to turn Beijing against North Korea in the long run. But she said China does not want to see a stepped-up U.S. military presence in the region, and Beijing certainly doesn't want a war on its borders.
China "doesn't want to deal with headaches like the tension between the U.S. and North Korea," said Lee of the Working Group for Peace and Demilitarization in Asia and the Pacific. "I think China is trying to restrain both sides."
