Look at the good of the Catholic Church

As we approach the election of a new Roman Catholic pope in the coming weeks, I would encourage all to take a more serious look at the church and its contribution to the world.

Too frequently in the media the church is mentioned only in very simplistic and misleading terms ? ?priest sexual abuse,? oftentimes from decades ago, ?women?s ordination,? etc.

The church is so much more than these modern ?controversies? suggest. Many wonderful works of the church go unmentioned in the press in order to maintain this very negative portrayal. For example, did you know that the Catholic Church is the largest private provider of care to HIV/AIDS patients in the world?

I challenge everyone to move beyond the negative headlines and see the church for what it really is ? a source of incredible hope and optimism in a lost world.
